A safe, organized, and relaxed home environment can mean happier, more productive employees on the job. Comfortable, functional furniture often helps create the foundation for the successful balance between work and life.
Whether it’s making room for an elderly parent, a growing family, or the new-found freedom of working from home, today’s households are in a state of flux:
- More extended families are living under one roof. Parents, grandparents, minor children and out-of-work adult children are sharing the same quarters. In 2008, 6.2 million intergenerational households resided in the United States. That number jumped to 7.1 million households, or 6.1% of all households, by 2010.
- The home office is now an essential room. According to Telework Research Network, 20 to 30 million people currently work from home at least one day a week. Additionally, the number of home-based businesses in the United States is projected to rise to more than 20 million by 2013.
- People are still having babies, but more worried about finances. You’ll spend almost $10,000 on your baby’s first year, according to a BabyCenter’s exclusive survey. Seventy percent of new mothers said they’re more anxious about money since having a child. Forty percent of moms said that having a baby costs a lot more than they expected.
Employees can purchase much-needed furniture through purchase programs. In fact, furniture was such a popular purchase last year for Purchasing Power, the category saw a YOY 75.9% revenue increase and 92.3% increase in units sold in 2011 over 2010. With that in mind, we are adding new products to our competitively priced furniture line.
Some of our most popular furniture products of 2011 included king, queen and full bedroom sets and Simmons mattresses. Youth and nursery furniture launched with a great selection of bunk beds, cribs and changing tables. Also added to the catalog were sofas in a variety of fabric and styles, recliners and theater seating, and compact desks that can turn any corner into a home office.
Employee purchase programs can go a long way in helping your employees stretch out in financial comfort at home.
